BENTONVILLE -- A Rogers man was placed on 10 years probation after he admitted sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl.

Robert Allen Edwards, 72, pleaded guilty Tuesday to sexual assault in the second degree. The plea came under an agreement Victoria Morris, Edwards' attorney, reached with Stuart Cearley, chief deputy prosecutor.

Edwards was arrested Sept. 6. The arrest came after an investigation concerning inappropriate contact with the girl.

Judge David Clinger accepted the plea agreement and Edwards' guilty plea.

Edwards was placed on 10 years of state-supervised probation. He was sentenced to 120 days in the Benton County Jail, but he received credit for the 235 days he spent in custody awaiting trial.

He was ordered not to have any contact with the girl. Edwards can't have any unsupervised contact with any minors. Edwards must pay $1,670 in court costs.
