Incumbents keep seats at charter arts school in Rogers

A School Board election held Tuesday at Benton County School of the Arts leaves the board membership largely unchanged.

Four positions of the seven-member board were up for election at the charter school.

Howard Alsdorf, founding board member, retained his seat with 79 votes over challenger and former substitute teacher Joe DeRouen’s 60 votes.

Tony Beardsley, a six-year board member, retained his seat with 75 votes over challenger Anthony Porchia’s 62 votes.

Dave Russell, a four-year board member, retained his seat with 72 votes over challenger JP Trevino’s 65 votes.

The only change on the board will be the addition of Kevin West, who ran uncontested for the seat currently held by Jim Keast. Keast did not run for re-election.

Current board members cited the drive to rebuild an arts focus at the school in their campaign. The school’s name will become Arkansas Arts Academy on July 1.
