SUN BELT WESTERN KENTUCKY 4, UALR 1

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - A solid start by Cameron Allen was squandered when UALR stranded 10 base runners in series finale loss Sunday at Nick Denes Field.

With a chance to win the weekend series, Allen gave up 3 runs, 2 earned, in 62/3 innings against Western Kentucky. But was stuck with the loss after the Trojans couldn’t capitalize on their nine hits.

Austin Pfeiffer went 3 for 5 and drove in a run with a single in the fourth inning, but the Trojans (18-24, 6-15) left two runners on in that inning, two on in the eighth and two in the ninth.

Western Kentucky (23-21, 11-10)took a 1-0 lead in the second on David Simmons’ RBI double, then went up 3-1 in the fourth when Phillip Diedrick hit a home run and Leiff Clarkson hit an RBI double. The Hilltoppers scored their final run in the eighth when Wofford hit an RBI single.

ARKANSAS STATE 10, GEORGIA STATE 6

DECATUR, Ga. - Arkansas State took a lead with an eight-run seventh inning and avoided its first Sun Belt Conference sweep on Sunday at the GSU Baseball Complex.

ASU (25-19, 14-7) sent 12 batters to the plate in the seventh, and scored on a two-run single, a two-run double, a two-run triple, an RBI single and a fielder’s choice.

Dustin Jones’ triple capped the big inning, and was followed by a two-run single from Austin Baker, a two-run double from Matt Burgess, a groundout that scored on a run by Kevin Fitzpatrick, and an RBI single from Joe Schrimpf that made it 10-4.

Georgia State (21-24, 7-14) scored two runs in the eighth, but Tyler Zuber didn’t allow a run in 1 1/3 innings to earn his first save. Chandler Hawkins earned the victory after giving up 2 runs on 3 hits in 2 innings of relief for the Red Wolves.

Zach Maggio, Baker and Schrimpf each had two hits for ASU, while Eric Wilcoxson and Schrimpf scored two runs.

SWAC ARKANSAS-PINE BLUFF 5, PITTSBURGH 0

PINE BLUFF - Mikey Ramirez pitched a four-hit, complete-game shutout while striking out six to help Arkansas-Pine Bluff to a nonconference victory Sunday at the Torii Hunter Baseball Complex.

Kirby Campbell went 2 for 3 with 2 RBI and scored a run and Vladimir Gomez went 3 for 4 with 1 RBI for the Golden Lions (19-25).

Rashawn Tillman singled and scored on a wild pitch in the second, then Gomez drove in a run with a single to make it 2-0. In the fifth, Campbell’s single scored Isias Alcantar, who had walked, and UAPB went up 5-0 in the seventh when Campbell drew a bases-loaded walk and Mitch Bruckshaw was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

Boo Vazquez hit a double for Pittsburgh (19-23), but its other three hits were singles.
