Land Purchase To Go Before Bella Vista Council

BELLA VISTA -- The City Council will discuss its second land buy this year when it meets at 6:30 p.m. Monday at Highlands Crossing Center.

The council will vote on buying 32 acres owned by Freda Perry. The land is south of Rogers Drive on the east side of Forest Hills Boulevard.

This parcel is one of four recently voluntarily annexed into the city.

Mayor Frank Anderson intends some of the land to be used for the Street Department. The lot is very close to the geographical center of the city he told aldermen Monday.

The Street Department operates out of a location off Bella Vista Way at Pinion Valley Drive. That location is leased from Cooper Communities. The council will vote on renewing that lease from the end of this month through August.

The Street Department would take up seven or eight acres of the new property. The remaining could be used for city projects or sold for commercial development, Anderson said.

Aldermen expressed support of the purchase at the work session.

City officials gave the go-ahead to buy 4 acres along Forest Hills Boulevard near Buckston Road last month for a fourth fire station.

Alderman also will consider the condemning and razing a structure at 9 Washington Lane. A public hearing will be held on the matter.

Other agenda items include contracts for asphalt concrete hot mix, slurry seal and chip and seal material for this year's street resurfacing projects, buying an asphalt hot box with emulsion spray tank and a contract with Diamond C Construction for the Murphy Drive storm sewer improvement project.
