Fire Guts Bella Vista Home

BELLA VISTA -- Two brick walls and the face of the garage were all that remained of the home at 128 Leicester Drive on Thursday morning.

Bella Vista firefighters were called just after midnight to a structure fire threatening nearby homes.

The homeowner said she woke up to flames, and rushed to get her cat and herself out of the house. They made it out safely without injury.

Fire Chief Steve Sims said when he arrived the home was engulfed. The fire's heat forced burning embers up into the air. The embers then fell on homes behind the house, he said. Homes hit by embers likely had roof damage, he said.

The siding on the home next door was damaged from the heat.

A Bentonville Fire Department engine was called to help and two Bentonville ambulances ran medical calls in the city while Bella Vista personnel worked the fire, Sims said.

The cause of the fire was still unknown on Thursday afternoon, Sims said.
