Softball: Springdale Har-Ber Defeats Rogers Heritage 6-3

ROGERS -- Springdale Har-Ber left Rogers Heritage standing Wednesday night.

Pitcher Emily Stockalper and the Har-Ber defense worked out of several big jams and the Lady Wildcats made the most of seven hits to defeat Heritage 6-3 in a 7A/6A-West Conference softball game at Veterans Park.

Heritage left 10 runners stranded, including seven in scoring position.

The win gives Har-Ber (14-8, 5-4 7A/6A-West) a season sweep of the Lady War Eagles (12-12, 4-5), which could loom large at the end of the regular season.

"Big win because there will probably be some teams tied in certain spots at the end of conference," Har-Ber coach Lynn Lawson said. "Sweeping Heritage could be important because a lot of teams in this conference are capable of beating other people."

Stockalper struck out five and the left fielder Misty Hickman made two big catches, including a running catch that ended the sixth inning with Heritage runners at first and second. Heritage loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the seventh but Stockalper caught a pop up in front of the mound to end the game.

"We got some big outs when we needed them," Lawson said.

Gracie Bogle led the Wildcats with two hits and her two-run double in the third gave the Lady Wildcats a 4-2 lead. She added an RBI single in the top of the seventh as Har-Ber added a pair of insurance runs for a 6-3 lead.

"I thought Gracie Bogle hit the ball well," Lawson said. "She hit a lot of crisp balls up the middle. We got some big hits, but I thought we should have hit the ball better. It was just a good game."

Heritage outhit the Lady Wildcats 10-7 but the Lady War Eagles also committed four errors and a base running mistake ended a rally in the sixth after they had cut the Har-Ber lead to 4-3. Abby Newton, Lindsay Flynn, Dehring Scudder and Lehr had two hits each for Heritage. Scudder, Lehr and Newton had RBIs for the Lady War Eagles.

Heritage coach Tiffany Taylor said early mistakes cost the Lady War Eagles. Har-Ber scored its first four runs on two hits and four Heritage errors.

"We made some mistakes, and that is how it bounces some times," Taylor said. "We had some errors that put ourselves in a hole. We just couldn't dig out of the hole enough."
