Two Northwest Arkansas Students Win National Merit Scholarships

Two students from Northwest Arkansas are among six seniors from the state to receive National Merit scholarships in the first of four announcements from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.

Benjamin J. Heil of Fayetteville High School and Tori Metheny of Rogers High School are among this year's recipients of the corporate-sponsored scholarships.

About 1,000 high school seniors won awards financed by about 200 corporations, company foundations and business organizations. Most of the awards are renewable for up to four years of undergraduate study and provide annual stipends ranging from $500 to $10,000 per year

Additional National Merit scholarship announcements will be made in May and July.
