ROGERS -- Perseverance and determination helped Daniel Sanchez break into the starting lineup for Rogers Heritage this season, but it's also helped pave the way for him to extend his baseball career.

The senior inked a letter of intent to play at Ecclesia College in a ceremony at Heritage High School on Tuesday evening.

Sanchez spent last season as a courtesy runner and late-inning defensive replacement a year ago for the War Eagles. He's become a regular in the outfield and even pitched in relief some this year for a Heritage team back near the top of the 7A/6A-West Conference with three weeks left in the regular season.

"He's a kid we definitely saw as having potential to help us," Heritage baseball coach Keith Kilgore said. "He's an athletic kid with some arm strength and can run. He was a role player for us last year, used him as an infielder some. Because of his range we we felt like he was better suited to help this year's club in the outfield.

"He's overcome some obstacles on and off the field. He's persevered and had determination to get on the field. It's nice to see those efforts rewarded. We see him as an instrumental part of our success this year."

Sanchez is hitting a .271 clip through 18 games with seven RBIs, 12 runs scored and five-of-six in stolen bases. He's also 1-0 with a save on the mound.

He will join Heritage teammate Brandon Norris with the Royals, who are currently ranked No. 20 nationally in the latest National Christian College Athletic Association ranking. He's also the fourth member of the War Eagles to sign to continue their baseball career in college.
