FAYETTEVILLE -- Lincoln will pay its assistant police chief while he's on administrative leave, the police chief said.

Tony Lee, assistant chief, was arrested Saturday in connection with misdemeanor assault charges. Police said Lee and his wife were arguing when Lee charged and held her. She wasn't injured.

Lee, 36, was released Sunday from the Washington County Detention Center on $710 bond.

Chief Russell Morphis said Tuesday that Lee will continue to receive full paychecks until his case is decided in Prairie Grove District Court.

Lee also worked as a resource officer for the Lincoln School District. Morphis and another of the town's six officers are filling that role for now, Morphis said.

Lee's absence "definitely takes away from our force," Morphis said.
