FAYETTEVILLE - Arkansas’ athletic department unveiled a new secondary logo and uniforms Monday at the Walton Arts Center during its “Hogspys” awards show honoring teams and student-athletes.

While a running Razorback will continue to be Arkansas’ primary logo, according to a UA news release, the new secondary logo - featuring a forward-facing Razorback head - now also will be used.

Arkansas’ colors long have been cardinal and white, but various shades of red have been used over the years for different sports, and all 19 of the UA’s teams will now have consistent colors, logos, letters and numbers, a news release said.

The new logo came about as part of a two-year project with Nike, Arkansas’ apparel provider, to create an “updated brand identity,” according to a news release. Arkansas, Florida State and Illinois are the three schools getting an updated look from Nike this year.

Nike officials met with Arkansas coaches, student-athletes, alumni and staff members, according to a newsrelease, to come up with a strategy for the new look.

“Nike has a time-honored relationship with the University of Arkansas and Razorback Athletics and it has been an incredible experience to pay homage to their rich history in conceptualizing a new brand identity,” said Todd Van Horne, vice president and creative director for Nike Football and Baseball in a news release. “The new updates are strong, fast and dynamic, reflecting the spirit of the University’s athletic programs in a forward-thinking manner.”

Increasing apparel sales figured in Monday’s announcement, with a news release stating merchandise with the new logo will be available for purchase by the end of April.
