FAYETTEVILLE -- The trial of a former University of Arkansas football player charged with second-degree murder in the death of a friend was reset Monday.

Josh Melton, 33, is charged in the death in August of Michael Gover, 30. Melton is free on $100,000 bond while awaiting trial.

The trial was reset to July 1 in Washington County Circuit Court.

According to multiple accounts, Gover and Melton were friends. Melton told Fayetteville police they spent an evening drinking after which he passed out and woke to find Gover had vomited on the living room floor in Melton's house. The two fought, and Gover collapsed on the floor. Melton woke the next morning and found Gover dead, according to police records.

Melton, a Batesville native, played for the Razorbacks from 1999 to 2002. He worked as a pharmaceutical salesman with Pfizer.

Melton called 911 after finding Gover's body and voluntarily went to the Police Department for questioning, according to police records.
