A statement on Boozman's website says that the U.S. Senator is now in recovery after heart surgery in Rogers.

He was taken to the hospital overnight after suffering from pain in his chest and arm.

The statement says that Boozman responded well to the surgery and doctors are monitoring his recovery.

U.S. Sen. John Boozman is undergoing surgery Tuesday morning at an Arkansas hospital, according to a news release.

Boozman, 63, "is receiving excellent care," the statement says, without specifying his ailment.

His Senate office will give more updates as more information becomes available, according to the statement.

The senator had been scheduled to speak this morning at the opening of the first stretch of the Bella Vista Bypass.

Patrick Creamer, a spokesman for Boozman, said he did not have information on what prompted the surgery or specifics about the procedure. He said information was coming in from Boozman's family and would be released as soon as possible.

"He's doing well," Creamer said.

Creamer said he could not divulge the hospital. When asked whether it was an emergency procedure, he said only that it was "unscheduled."
