Gala benefits development center

The Sunshine Gala netted nearly $150,000 to benefit the Sunshine School & Development Center April 12 at Horton Farms in Gravette.

The gala was themed "country chic." About 440 guests attended the event, and money raised will go toward the general operations of the Sunshine School & Development Center, said Summer Backstrom, development and communications manager for the school.

The mission of the Sunshine School & Development Center in Rogers is "developing and enriching the lives of individuals and families through therapy, education and support," according to NWAsunshineschool.org.

Al Dominguez and Joe Grady were honorary chairmen of the gala. The evening included dinner, a video presentation, a silent auction, a live auction, music by Jamie Wolfe and the Wranglers and "Stories of Sunshine" by Jim and Melinda Johns, parents of a child at Sunshine School & Development Center. The event also featured casino games, such as blackjack, roulette, craps and poker.

The gala presenting sponsor was RB.

The live auction raised more than $20,000. Items included a custom ring by Ashley Linden, dinner and two tickets to see Willie Nelson and Alison Krauss in concert, a Napa and Sonoma wine tour for four people, a suite for 20 people at Arvest Ballpark and a "mindfulness basket of happiness."
