Farris Insurance places on growth list

Auto-Owners Insurance named Farris Insurance Agency in Springdale as one of the company’s top 10 growth agencies in 2013 in Arkansas.

The agency was recently honored in Little Rock.

Farris Insurance Agency has represented Auto-Owners since 2007 and this is its fourth time to receive this recognition.

Auto-Owners Insurance was founded in 1916 and has served Arkansas since 2005.

It is a Fortune 500 company and is the 18th largest property/casualty insurance company in the nation, based on written premiums. Auto-Owners is headquartered in Lansing, Mich., and serves policyholders in 26 states.

NWACC to host professionals day events

Northwest Arkansas Community College is hosting an event Wednesday celebrating Administrative Professionals Day.

The event will be held in the Wal-Mart Auditorium of the Shewmaker Center for Workforce Technologies, 1000 SE Eagle Way, Bentonville.

The day’s presentations include “Controlling Office Technology Before It Controls You,” “Excelling with Excel - Tips and Tricks,” “The Power of a Dream,” “Listening for Loyalty” and “Exploring Your Dream.”

Registration will be from 8:15-9 a.m., and sessions will end at 3:30 p.m. Cost is $75 and includes lunch and the day’s activities.

Garden party set May 8 in Springdale

The Northwest Arkansas Chapter of Executive Women International’s Garden Party 2014 begins at 11:30 a.m. on May 8 at Magnolia Gardens Event Venue, 501 N. Main St., Springdale. Al Einert, professor emeritus of horticulture at the University of Arkansas, will be the guest speaker. Lunch is being catered by the Event Group.

Einert earned a doctorate from Mississippi State University, but he spent most of his career at the University of Arkansas teaching topics such as landscape design, landscape maintenance and plant identification and use.

Einert retired as a professor from UA in 1999 and now consults for various government agencies.

At the luncheon, he will share gardening tips and give away various plants and flowers.

The local Executive Women International chapter began its garden party fundraiser for its scholarship program, “Adult Students in Academic Transition.” The chapter was chartered in 1993 and has awarded more than $187,000 in scholarships to local, nontraditional students.

Service includes yearly physicals, treatment for routine illnesses, writing of prescriptions and much more.
