Scholastica hosts

caregiver retreat

FORT SMITH - Jillian Guthrie, a licensed clinical social worker, will present a retreat for caregivers May 29-31 at St. Scholastica Monastery’s retreat center. During the “Balance in Action” program participants will learn how to help others while taking care of their well-being. They will also hear stories, participate in activities and experience meditative exercise.

Cost is $200 and includes lodging and meals. Registration is available online at stscho.org or by calling (479) 783-1135. Deadline to register is May 15.

illness and faith

FAYETTEVILLE - Nora Gallagher will discuss “Finding God in Illness and Vulnerability” at 7 p.m. Friday at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. Her new book, Moonlight Sonata at the Mayo Clinic, explores her experience with illness and her journey of renewed faith.

Gallagher is preacher-in-residence at Trinity Episcopal Church in Santa Barbara, Calif., and has given talks at Yale University, University of California-Berkeley, Stanford University and at Washington National Cathedral.

A reception begins at 6:30. The church is at 224 N. East Ave.
