Cardinals send Travs to sixth loss in a row

Just when the Arkansas Travelers got back into Friday night’s game with Springfield, the Cardinals put the game out of reach with four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning in a 9-5 victory at Hammons Field in Springfield, Mo.

The loss was the sixth in a row for the Travelers (6-8).

The Cardinals (7-7) led 5-1 after five innings before the Travelers got two in the sixth on Michael Snyder’s first home run of the season, a shot to left field that also scored Zach Borenstein.

Springfield wasn’t fazed in their half of the sixth, however.

James Ramsey’s RBI single scored Luis Mateo to make it 6-3 before Aledmys Diaz hit a two-run home rum to left field off Orangel Arenas for a 8-3 advantage.

The Cardinals added another in the sixth when Jonathan Rodriguez scored on third baseman Kaleb Cowart’s error.

Arkansas concluded the scoring with two runs in the top of the seventh. Alex Yarbrough’s double scored Eric Stamets before Cowart hit a sacrifice fly to score Kyle Hudson. Joe Donofrio, the third Springfield pitcher of the game, struck out five Travelers in 1 2/3 innings before turning it over to Dean Kiekhefer who got the final two outs. Kramer Sneed (1-2) took the loss for the Travelers, allowing 4 runs on 3 hits and 5 walks in 4 innings. Sam Gaviglio (1-2) allowed 3 runs on 6 hits and 3 walks in 5 2/3 innings for the
