Amnesty, Fine Forgiveness At Springdale Library

SPRINGDALE -- The Springdale Public Library is offering amnesty for lost items and fine forgiveness in exchange for food.

The event, called Food for Fines, will collect food for the Northwest Arkansas Food Bank. Those bringing one nonperishable food item to the library will have $5 in fines waived, according to a news release.

Library users also will be able to return items classified as lost and have their accounts cleared.

"The key purpose is to welcome back patrons who have not been able to use the library due to charges," said Marcia Ransom, library director.

Borrowing privileges may be suspended when fines exceed $5 or when billed items haven't been paid for or returned, according to library policy. The second overdue notice for the same item sent to a patron will be a bill for the item.

The amnesty event, held in conjunction with National Library Week, runs through April 27. Those with questions can call the library at 479-750-8180.
