Richardson earns Eagle Scout honors

Joseph Richardson, 18, of Fayetteville received his Eagle Scout award April 4 from Scout leader Billy Ammons at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Fayetteville.

Richardson is a member of the church and of Troop 430, which meets at the church. He is the son of Connie and Vernon Richardson.

For his Eagle Scout project, Richardson created a PowerPoint presentation on the handling and use of the American flag for the Daughters of the American Revolution. The tutorial is used by schools, Scout troops and libraries.

Bubniak wins scholar award

Sarah Bubniak, the daughter of Tammy Easley and a senior at Farmington High School, has received a Distinguished Scholars Award from Arkansas Tech University.

She will begin studying rehabilitative science at the university in the fall. She has been a member of the National Honor Society since 2011.

Local students place in contest

Three local students took home honors in this year's Arkansas Farm Bureau safety poster contest. This year's theme was Farm Safety: Your Only Passenger.

In the contest for first-, second- and third-graders, Vivian Elizabeth Preston, a third-grade student at Booneville Elementary, won second place. Preston is the daughter of Larry Preston and Elizabeth Perez.

Cerella Lor, a third-grader at Waldron Elementary, took home third place. She is the daughter of Bee Lor.

Falyn Cordeiro, a sixth-grader at Gentry Middle School, earned second place in the contest for fourth-, fifth- and sixth-graders. She is the daughter of Mike and Brandy Cordeiro.

Second-place winners received $75, while $50 was awarded to third-place winners.

Little Miss Pageant scheduled May 3

The Little Miss Western Arkansas Princess pageant is set for 10 a.m. May 3 at Barling Elementary School.

The pageant is open to girls from birth to 12 years old. The pageant will include formal wear only.

Entry fee is $50, with an additional optional Grand Supreme entry fee of $25. Proceeds benefit the Miss Western Arkansas Preliminary Pageant Scholarship Fund.

Cornett nominated for artist award

Rogers native Matt Cornett, 15, has received a nomination for the Hollywood Young Artist Award for his work on the TNT series "Southland." Previous winners of the awards include Leonardo DiCaprio and Winona Ryder.

Cornett and his family now live in Los Angeles. He recently shot a Scottrade commercial and has been chosen for a role in the feature film "My Babysitter Is An Alien."

Locals recognized for volunteering

Angela Delashmit of Bentonville, John Cattani Jr. of Bentonville and Tom Winters of Fayetteville are among the recipients of the President's Volunteer Services Award.
