Van Buren Sweeps Springdale High

Strong pitching performances from Taylor Anders and Brad Eversole led Van Buren to 8-1 and 5-0 home wins for a sweep of Springdale High in a 7A/6A-West Conference doubleheader Tuesday.

The Bulldogs (6-14, 1-7) scored their only run of the night thanks to two Van Buren errors in the top of the fifth inning. Anders struck out seven and only allowed four hits and one walk in the complete game win.

Eversole had an RBI double in the first game, then struck out 15 while giving up just three hits and walking three on the mound in the second game as Van Buren took an early lead and never looked back.

Springdale will host Farmington on Friday.

Rogers Heritage Sweeps Siloam Springs

Junior Kacey Murphy tossed a one-hitter and struck out 18 to lead Rogers Heritage to a 7-0 win over Siloam Springs in the first game of a 7A/6A-West Conference baseball doubleheader Tuesday night.

The left-hander allowed only a leadoff single in the fourth inning and one walk in the game to improve to 4-1. He also went 2-for-3 with a run batted in.

Colton Wetzler and Logan Easley also added two hits and two RBIs apiece for Heritage.

The War Eagles (13-4, 6-2 7A/6A-West) completed the sweep with a 17-1 win in the nightcap.

Wetzler (4-1) pitched three scoreless innings to earn the win in the second game and the Heritage offense pounded out 17 hits. He also went 3-for-5 with five RBIs.

Dalton McKaughan and Ty Harris also each went 3-for-3 and drove in three runs in the second game.

Heritage will host McDonald County, Mo., in a nonconference game on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.

Bentonville 1, Rogers High 0

Wyatt D'Spain made the most of a deflection and scored with more than eight minutes remaining as Bentonville edged Rogers High during 7A/6A-West action Tuesday at Whitey Smith Stadium.

Eric Johnson made a long inbounds throw to Josh Howard, whose kick was deflected off a Rogers defender. The ball then went right to D'Spain, who fired it into the goal for Bentonville (9-0-1, 2-0).

The Tigers return to action Friday with a home match against Rogers Heritage.
