Benton County Sets Hearing For Fired Comptroller

— A grievance hearing for Sarah Wilson, fired from her job as Benton County comptroller last week, has been set for 6 p.m. April 23.

Wilson is seeking reinstatement under the county's grievance policy. She was fired April 8. County Judge Bob Clinard said in a letter to Wilson outlining his decision he lost confidence in her judgment.

County policy calls for a grievance hearing to be scheduled within 14 days after an employee files a formal request, which Wilson did Friday.

County officials said in a letter to Jeff Mitchell, Wilson's attorney, April 23 is the only date during the 14-day window all of the people the county needs to attend can be present. The letter gives Mitchell the option to request the hearing be scheduled after the 14-day period, but with the stipulation if Wilson's firing is upheld, her pay will cease April 23.

Mitchell was asked to notify the county no later than Thursday if he wants to reschedule the hearing. The letter said rescheduling the hearing likely will push it back to May 7.
