Tuesday, April 15, 2014

— Rexy, the model Tyrannosaurus Rex, will roar farewell to the public library on Thursday, according to a news release.

The library invites people to drop in before Thursday to say goodbye and take photos with Rexy. The library's children's department will distribute Tyrannosaurus skeleton models to children as a farewell memento, the release states.

Rexy has been in the library's main hall for the past six years. He will join The Arkansas Discovery Network as part of a traveling dinosaur exhibit, according to the release.

Rexy is a half-size replica of the bone-chasing Tyrannosaurus Rex skeleton featured in the movie "Night at the Museum." Rexy was donated by 20th Century Fox and Walmart and has called the Bentonville Public Library home since 2007, according to the release.

The library hosted five annual Rexy events between 2008-12. Each celebration focused on educational themes and literature from multiculturalism to history to scientific inventions. The events were popular with attendance totaling 2,625 across the five-year time frame, the release stated.
