Two killed in wreck near Gentry

Two 19-year-old men died in a one-vehicle wreck near Gentry on Saturday, Gentry Fire Chief Vester Cripps said Sunday.

Zachary Long and Shawn Hurt, both of the Gentry area, died at about 7:15 p.m. Saturday after losing control of a Hyundai Santa Fe they were driving eastbound on Old Springtown Road east of Gentry. Their car left the roadway and turned over, ejecting both men who died at the scene, Cripps said.

There were no witnesses to the wreck. Someone from a nearby residence heard the wreck and called emergency workers, Cripps said.

The accident remains under investigation, but alcohol and drugs are not considered factors, according to Keshia Guyll, spokeswoman for the Benton County Sheriff's Office.

Speeding may have played a role in the accident, she said.
