COLLEGE ATHLETICS UA hires Cromer as associate AD

FAYETTEVILLE - Julie Cromer has been hired as Arkansas’ senior associate athletic director for administration and sports and senior women’s administrator, UA Athletic Director Jeff Long announced Friday.

Cromer, Indiana’s senior women’s administrator the past four years, is replacing Bev Lewis, who is retiring in June after more than 30 years at Arkansas as a coach and administrator.

Before going to Indiana, Cromer worked at the NCAA, the Midwestern Collegiate Conference, South Alabama and Wright State.

“Throughout her career, Julie has served at the institutional, conference and national levels to promote the growth, development and well-being of student-athletes,” Long said in a news release. “She is a great addition to our team and will be a tremendous benefit to our program serving more than 460 Razorback student-athletes.”

Cromer earned a master’s of public affairs in policy analysis from the Indiana University School of Public and Environmental Affairs in 2010. She received has bachelor’s degree in communications management in 1993 from Missouri State.

Tickets on sale for NWA Championship

Tickets for the LPGA Tour’s Northwest Arkansas Championship, which will be held at Pinnacle Country Club in Rogers on June 23-29, are now on sale.

Weekly general admission tickets are $25 for adults with children 17 and under free with a paying adult.

In addition, tickets to “The Club,” on No. 17 are $275 for all three days of the tournament which include food and refreshments along with a view of both the tee and green.

MOTOR SPORTS ASCS heads to I-30

The Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series national tour will return to Little Rock’s I-30 Speedway tonight for the first of three visits to the quarter-mile, high-banked oval this season.

The series also will be at the track on June 7, as well as Oct. 22-25 for the 27th annual Short Track Nationals.

Entering tonight’s event, Christopher Bell of Norman, Okla., is the series points leader. He holds a 90-point lead over Tony Bruce Jr. of Liberal, Kan. Jason Johnson of Eunice, La., an eight-time ASCS winner at I-30, including last year’s spring event, is 91 points back in third place. Matt Covington of Glenpool, Okla., is fourth, 92 points behind Bell.

Gates open at 5 p.m. and racing starts at 7:30 p.m. Grandstand admission is $25 for adults and $1 for children aged 6-12. Pit passes are $30.

BASEBALL

Arkansas Baptist splits with NE Oklahoma

Chase Anderson went 3 for 4 with 4 RBI in the second game, allowing Arkansas Baptist to split a Bi-State Conference doubleheader with Northeastern Oklahoma A&M in Little Rock on Friday night.

A&M (28-11, 3-3) won the first game 6-1, but the Buffaloes (22-16, 2-4) bounced back in the second game for an 8-4 victory. Zach Akins (2-2) picked up the victory for Arkansas Baptist. Justin Vincent (3-4) took the loss in the first game.

The teams will complete the three-game series today with a single game at 1 p.m. at Curren-Conway Field.

Henderson State defeats Harding

Harding fell 4-3 to Henderson State on Friday at Jerry Moore Field in Searcy.

Trailing 2-0 in the fifth inning, Henderson State had five singles and a walk to score all four runs. Harding (22-16, 13-9 Great American Conference) took a 2-0 lead in the first when Erin McCarver doubled and scored on James Anderson’s double. Noah Chandler doubled to score Anderson.
