MISCELLANEOUS Ex-Razorback linebacker arrested

Former Arkansas linebacker Jarrett Lake was arrested Thursday and charged with two counts of aggravated cruelty to animals, a Class D felony.

Lake, 22, was released from the Washington County jail on $2,500 bond and faces an April 16 court date.

According to the arrest report, Fayetteville Animal Control officers found a dead pit bull in a garage strewn with animal droppings at a home on Jeremiah Place while investigating a report of animal abandonment Dec. 29. Officers also found another dog inside the house that was alive but malnourished.

The report states the second dog was taken to the Fayetteville Animal Shelter where it was evaluated. Officers found two empty dog food bags, calf milk replacer and dog treats in the garage. An autopsy on the pit bull showed a small piece of black plastic but no food in its stomach, according to the report.

On Jan. 14, Fayetteville police attempted to contact Lake and a roommate but neither of their phone numbers were in service, according to the report. Police were able to contact Lake’s aunt that day, and she told them he was out of state undergoing football training and that she would reach him.

A warrant was issued for his arrest in February. Lake was pulled over on Interstate 540 in Northwest Arkansas on Thursday and his warrant was discovered, according to the report, leading to his arrest.

Lake played for Arkansas from 2010-2013.
