Sinbad stands up

Friday, April 11, 2014

I never really know what I am going to do for a show," says professional funnyman Sinbad with a laugh. "It changes every time."

The comedian will bring his unique brand of stand-up to the Walton Arts Center Saturday for an evening of observational comedy, political satire and jokes possibly written only hours before.

"You never know what's going to happen before a show that could change things," he says. "You always got guys working on something, maybe something you really want to do for a show. There may be some stuff from "Make Me Wanna Holla" (2013), or some music. I don't know yet."

Sinbad may very well unleash his musical talents on Saturday, due to his recent involvement in a project very near and dear to his heart, he says.

"I've always really enjoyed music," he says. "Part of the reason I got back into music was because of my daughter (Paige Adkins). My daughter has a band, so I've been really involved with that project for the last few years. You never know what you are going to get into in this business."

Sinbad's career has not been typical. Beginning with an 1985 win against comedian Dennis Miller on Star Search, he has taken on acting, stand-up, multiple cameos, reality shows and offering his voice to the animated series "American Dad."

"I've never limited myself," he says. "Hollywood flips left and right. You just gotta go with it. Have a good time. I think people will have a good time at my show. I'm really looking forward to it."
