Benton County School Of The Arts To Become Arkansas Arts Academy

ROGERS -- Students at Benton County School of the Arts will have a new school name this fall.

Arkansas Arts Academy was approved as the name for the charter school during the Arkansas Board of Education meeting Thursday. The board bundled five charter school appeals in one vote without discussion, electing not to review the Charter Authorizing Panel's decision last month.

Charter schools in Arkansas are public schools and subject to the state Board of Education. The schools can appeal state rules through the Charter Authorizing Panel.

The Rogers school had two requests before the state board: the name change and a waiver to eliminate cafeteria supervisors. Teachers will supervise students during lunch on a rotating schedule.

The name change will be effective July 1.

Charter board members voted on the change Feb. 11. The Arkansas Arts Academy name was selected from five names recommended by Cranford Johnson Robinson Woods, a marketing firm hired by the school. The new name is part of a rebranding effort, board members said at the time of their vote.
