Sarah Hendrickson, the first female ski jumper in Olympic history, will be the keynote speaker at the third annual Out of the Box Luncheon on Friday. The luncheon at Avondale Chapel in Bentonville will benefit Girls on the Run Northwest Arkansas.

Girls on the Run, an afterschool development program for girls in third through fifth grades, has been in Northwest Arkansas since 2004.

The group also offers Girls on Track for sixth- to eighth-graders.

Volunteer coaches meet with Girls on the Run teams twice a week at 17 area schools, with eight to 20 girls per team. The 10-week curriculum consists of three parts - understanding themselves, valuing relationships and teamwork and how they connect and shape the world. Each team develops and carries out a community service project.

The Girls on Track curriculum for middle-school girls also includesphysical fitness, and topics covered include Internet safety, cyber-bullying, relationships, eating disorders and tobacco and alcohol use.

Physical fitness is embedded in the curriculum for both programs, and girls participate in a noncompetitive Girls on the Run 5K at the end of each session with the goal ofcrossing the finish line.

The luncheon will be catered by Table Mesa, and “Inspiration Boxes” will be available for $20. The boxes includes products and service certificates and chances to win donated prizes.
