A train derailment this morning in Garfield was not caused by weather or human error, said Ron Sparks, chief of police for the Arkansas & Missouri Railroad.

Twenty of 45 cars derailed beginning with back cars just off Roberts Loop and U.S. Highway 62, with five of those cars lying on their sides. The train cars were carrying mostly masonry sand and fracking sand, Sparks said.

Within hours, another train had arrived on the scene from the west and pulled the upright cars away from the wreck site. More equipment was on the way to remove the wrecked cars.
