FISHING Mount Ida’s Davis moves into lead

Mark Davis of Mount Ida moved into the lead Friday at the Bassmaster Elite Series event on Table Rock Lake in Branson, Mo.

Davis caught 15 pounds, 3 ounces Friday, adding to his first-day total of 18 pounds, 8 ounces for 33 pounds, 11 ounces.

Chris Lane of Guntersville, Ala. is in second place with 33-1.

Mike McClelland of Bella Vista, moved into fourth place after catching 16-14 for a two-day total of 32-4.

FOOTBALL UCA holds second scrimmage

Central Arkansas’ second scrimmage Friday afternoon at Estes Stadium in Conway saw several strong moments from both the offensive and defensive units.

Senior defensive back Dominique Brown returned a Ryan Howard interception for a touchdown and the defense also forced a safety in the one-hour scrimmage.

Howard, a senior who is currently the starter, threw a touchdown pass to classmate Dezmin Lewis.

Junior backup Taylor Reed had one touchdown pass to Blake Gardner on the first series of the scrimmage.

TENNIS LR native advances in tournament

Trent Brandon, a senior at Arkansas Baptist, won the doubles wildcard qualifier with former Stanford Cardinal Matt Kandath for the Tour De Paul USTA tournament at Pleasant Valley Club in Little Rock.

Brandon and Kandath defeated Texarkana’s Taylor Cramer and Benton’s Branch Terrell 8-6 to earn a spot in the main doubles draw.

BASKETBALL All-Star college games set

The inaugural Arkansas College Basketball All-Star games will be held today at Summit Arena in Hot Springs.

A women’s game featuring 10 seniors from six state colleges will begin at 3:30 p.m.

A men’s game featuring 18 seniors will be played after the women’s exhibition.

A legends game will begin at 7:30 p.m. Former Razorbacks scheduled to play include Dillard, Marcus Monk, Clint McDaniel, Stefan Welsh and Carl Baker.

Tickets for the event are $18, $13 and $8 and can be purchased through Ticketmaster.com.
