Public Viewpoint: Disabled Hurt By Lake Atalanta Vote

In reference to the road closing around Lake Atalanta, it appears that only two of our City Council members had any feelings for the disabled people who use the lake. The remaining aldermen are like our government (which acts like) the elderly or disabled do not count. As a person who has had seven heart attacks, a stroke and cancer, this eliminates the use of the lake to me and others.

Thanks to the two aldermen who voted to keep it open.

Iam ashamed of the alder- man I voted for and also the mayor, Greg Hines, both of whom can be assured that they will get no more votes from me. It is an obvious move against the intent of the bequeathers of Lake Atalanta and the majority of residents to close the road (around the lake).

We have enough fatalities on Arkansas 12 without causing more inability to safely access the highway and divert traft c. This actions smells like one more assault upon regular folks who desire water access for fishing and other enjoyment. First, the closing of the pool guaranteed that no adult will have fun swimming in a water feature in this area. Don’t even mention that noisy, overcrowded, ridiculously expensive water park for parties to me.

Now the many older people who enjoy sitting and fishing but cannot walk the entire perimeter are losing the privilege. Are some rich folks mad and want to keep the activity out of their front yards? That is public land for use by the people.

For shame Buddy Wright, Andrew Hatfi eld, Mark Kruger, Marge Wolf and Betsy Reithemeyer and especially for shame, Mayor Greg Hines, for not speaking out against this despicable act.
