Rogers Set To Launch New City Website In June

ROGERS -- A new interactive, easier-to-navigate city website with more events and department information is scheduled to launch in June, city officials said Thursday.

CivicPlus has worked on the website since December. Adam Black, project manager for CivicPlus, demonstrated the possibilities and layout of the website to Carey Anderson, administrative assistant to the mayor; David Hook, facilities development manager; and Ryan Breese, IT director, in a conference call Thursday.

Black demonstrated how background photos will rotate to keep the screen fresh and explained possible options and how they work on the redesigned website.

"The website is very user friendly and easy to navigate," Anderson said. "The site is also interactive. When we get the site up and running visitors should be able to check bids, review agendas and minutes of various meetings, request additional information, rent park space or a sports field, get a garage sale permit and several other things online."

The site is a work in progress. City officials will make recommendations for site changes over the next couple of weeks.

"There are some things I would like to see done differently," Hook said. "For one thing the city slogan, 'Where Possible Lives,' needs to be moved from its location on the page. It just doesn't work at the top of page on the left-hand side."

City staff members will be able to update the site to keep the information fresh, Hook said.

"Employees charged with updating the site will receive three days of training before the site goes online," Hook said.

There also will be a person appointed to sign off on updates and to check spelling and accuracy before updates are posted to the website, he added.

CivicPlus signed a $32,000 contract with the city in December. The money was included as website contract labor in the 2014 budget.
