Fayetteville Theft, Burglary Reports Rise After Spring Break

Tuesday, April 1, 2014

— A rash of break-ins and thefts were reported as spring break ended.

About two dozen incidents were reported Sunday and Monday, according to police records.

Most of the items taken were wallets, gaming systems and other electronics.

The thefts and burglaries weren't concentrated in any one section of town. Most happened roughly between Farmington and Lake Fayetteville, and about a third were within a mile of the University of Arkansas campus.

A TV was stolen on North Betty Jo Drive, according to the reports. Two neighbors' cars were broken into on Southwest Miami Loop, while a Playstation 3 was reported stolen on South Dunn Avenue.

Such reports often surge after the university's spring and winter breaks, Sgt. Craig Stout said, as students return to find doors forced open or windows smashed.

"It's not any more burglaries than we normally get," he said. "It's just they get reported all at once."
