Bentonville Man Killed In House Fire

A Bentonville man was killed in a house fire early Saturday morning, police announced Monday.

A police officer on patrol spotted smoke coming from 1109 S.E. 35th St. about 3:30 a.m., according to a news release.

The fire department arrived at the scene and, upon making entry, found Larry Lee Smith II, 34, in a bedroom. Smith was transported to Northwest Medical Center-Bentonville where he was pronounced dead. The apparent cause of death was smoke inhalation, the release stated.

An investigation by the police and fire departments revealed no suspicious circumstances surrounding the fire. It appears the fire started when a stove was left on. The investigation also revealed there were no operable smoke detectors in the home, the release stated.
