Library hosts fall book sale

The Friends of the Bentonville Library will hold a fall book sale from 1 to 4 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m.

to 4:30 p.m. Saturday at the library. Members of the Friends of the Bentonville Library organization will be allowed early entry from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday.

Thousands of new and used books for all age groups will be offered ranging from from free to $1.

All proceeds will be used to benefit the collections and other special needs of the library.

Cooking classes welcome teacher

The CulinArts Center of Eureka Springs will welcome Margie Roelands as the first teacher at the new cooking school at the Writers’ Colony at Dairy Hollow. Roelands, the owner of Raimondo Winery and Simply Sicilian, will teach cooking with her flair for using various flavor-infused olive oils and balsamic vinegars and wines Friday and Saturday.

Foods used in preparation will be locally grown and organic from Sycamore Bend Farms.

The weekend workshops at 515 Spring St., in Eureka Springs will be a total submersion into the culture and traditions of the food and region featured. Classes include presentations by and/or trips to the Farmer’sMarket, tips on “kitchenology” and artistic instruction on plating and presentation. Classes will be conducted by nationally known chefs and popular Arkansas culinary experts.

Architecture lecture topic Andrew Saunders will present a lecture titled “Architectural Transpositions” at 5:30 p.m. Monday in Ken and Linda Sue Shollmier Hall, room 250 of Vol Walker Hall, on the University of Arkansas campus, as part of the Fay Jones School of Architecture lecture series.

Saunders is the head of the graduate programs for the School of Architecture at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He has taught and guest lectured at a variety of institutions, including Cooper Union and the Cranbrook Academy of Art.

The public is invited to attend. Admission is free,with limited seating.

Biking event

invites families On Saturday, Hobbs State Park - Conservation Area along with the Ozark Off Road Cyclists and Friends of Slaughter Pen Trails will host young riders ages 6 to 16 for a youth mountain biking event. The ride is part of a nationwide celebration known as Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day.

Events start at 10 a.m.
