SOUTHLAND NORTHERN IOWA 41, MCNEESE STATE 6

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - Sawyer Kollmorgen passed for 288 yards and three touchdowns, and rushed for 30 yards and another touchdown, to lead Football Championship Subdivision Sports Network No. 5 Northern Iowa over No. 9 McNeese State on Saturday.

Northern Iowa (4-0) dominated from start to finish, limiting McNeese State (4-1) to just 280 total yards and recovered three fumbles.

Kollmorgen opened the scoring with a 32-yard touchdown to David Johnson as the Panthers built a 17-0 halftime lead. Northern Iowa stretched the lead on the first series of the second half, as Kollmorgen found Chad Owens for a 25-yard touchdown less than two minutes into the half.

McNeese State finally scored later in the third quarter as Cody Stroud completed a six-yard touchdown pass to Marcus Wiltz, but a two-point conversion failed.

Kollmorgen then converted a Cowboys fumble into a one-yard scoring run late in the third and Northern Iowa added two more touchdowns in the fourth quarter to complete the romp.

McNeese State travels to Central Arkansas on Saturday in both teams’ Southland Conference opener. UCA was off Saturday.

SAM HOUSTON STATE 49, EASTERN WASHINGTON 34

HUNTSVILLE, Texas - Timothy Flanders rushed for 280 yards and two touchdowns, reaching 5,000 yards for his career, to lead No. 4 Sam Houston State to a victory over No. 2 Eastern Washington.

The only thing that slowed Flanders was a rainstorm that delayed the start of the showdown between two top five FCS teams for more than an hour.

The teams combined for 1,052 yards after piling up 1,026 last year when Sam Houston (4-1) beat the Eagles (2-2) 45-42 in the FCS semifinals in Cheney, Wash.

Sam Houston State had 450 rushing yards, with Richard Sincere adding 98, including a 51-yard score on the third play of the game. Brian Bell threw for two touchdowns to Torrance Williams and ran for a third.

Vernon Adams threw for 355 yards and touchdowns covering 33, 59 and 62 yards for Eastern Washington. However, DeAntrey Loche returned an interception 42 yards for a touchdown for Sam Houston State.

SWAC JACKSON STATE 19, SOUTHERN 14

BATON ROUGE - Jackson State stopped Southern on downs inside the 10-yard line with a minute left and held on for a victory.

The Jaguars (2-3, 2-1 Southwestern Athletic Conference) took over on their own 25 midway through the fourth quarter and marched quickly to the Southern 14. But the drive fizzled and Dray Joseph’s fourth-down pass from the 7 fell incomplete.

Jackson State (3-2, 3-0) had taken a 19-7 lead in the third quarter on 2-yard touchdown runs by Clayton Moore and Rakeem Simms. Joseph brought Southern back with a 70-yard drive capped by a 19-yard pass to Lee Doss with a minute left in the third.

The Tigers had a balanced attack with 190 yards rushing and 165 passing from Moore.

Joseph finished with 246 yards passing. Lenard Tillery had a 60-yard touchdown run to put the Jaguars up 7-3 at halftime.

ALABAMA STATE 49, ALCORN STATE 30

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Isaiah Crowell ran for 136 yards and four touchdowns to carry Alabama State past Alcorn State.

Crowell had three touchdowns and 99 yards as the Hornets (3-2, 2-2 SWAC) opened a 28-7 lead before halftime. Then Leland Baker had a sack, forced fumble and recovery on the first play of the third quarter with Crowell scoring on a 1-yard run on the next play. Alabama State forced four turnovers.

Daniel Duhart found Brandon Barnes for an 8-yard touchdown pass on the first play of the fourth quarter to make it 42-7.

The Braves (3-2, 2-1) never got back in the game, but John Gibbs threw two of his three touchdown passes to Jordan Payne in the fourth quarter and Tavoris Doss returned a punt 96 yards with 2:59 remaining. Alcorn State tacked on a field goal on the final play.

ALABAMA A&M 12, TEXAS SOUTHERN 10

NORMAL, Ala. - Brandon Wells ran for a 4-yard touchdown late in the fourth quarter to help Alabama A&M outlast Texas Southern.

The Bulldogs (2-3, 2-1 SWAC) scored first with a 64-yard touchdown run by Brandon Eldemire and led 6-3 at halftime.

The Tigers (0-4, 0-3) jumped ahead late in the third quarter as Edward Perkins-Loving scored from 6 yards out.

Alabama A&M drove 49 yards on eight plays and Wells rushed for the go-ahead score, putting the Bulldogs back on top 12-10 with 1:48 remaining following a missed extra point.

Texas Southern drove to the Bulldogs 25, but Eric Medina missed a 42-yard field goal attempt, keeping the Tigers winless.

Eldemire ran for 83 yards on six carries and Wells combined with Jaymason Lee for 123 yards passing.

TSN TOP 25 NORTH DAKOTA STATE 20, SOUTH DAKOTA STATE 0

BROOKINGS, S.D. - North Dakota State, the nation’s top-ranked Football Championship Subdivision team, shut out FCS No. 6 South Dakota State on Saturday.

The Bison (4-0) came off a 51-0 victory over Delaware State last week that included a visit from ESPN’s College GameDay show.

The two-time defending FCS champions have now won 14 consecutive on the road.

The Jackrabbits (3-2) lost 59-20 last week at Nebraska but were on a nine game home winning streak, with the last loss coming to the Bison in 2011.

The first score came early in the second quarter with a 1-yard run by Bison quarterback Brock Jensen.

North Dakota State allowed South Dakota State to stay in the game well into the fourth quarter when Biston running back John Crockett scored.

On the next possession, Jensen ran it again for his second touchdown of the game.

South Dakota State set an attendance record of 16,498.
