Crowbar Beating Leads To Arrest

FAYETTEVILLE — A south Fayetteville man faces second-degree battery charges after being accused of beating his roommate on the head with a crowbar.

Police were sent to apartments at 1212 S. Dunn Ave. late Friday and found Brian Robertson, 42, bleeding extensively from the back of his head.

According to a preliminary arrest report, Robertson confronted his roommate, James Cormican, 46, about bringing stolen property into their apartment. The two began to argue when Cormican reportedly pinned Robertson on a couch and hit him with the crowbar. Robertson told police he turned and punched Cormican, ran to a neighbor’s apartment, where the neighbor called 911.

Cormican wasn't in his apartment when police arrived, but officers found blood on a couch and near the front door. According to dispatch records, Cormican was arrested at the apartments at 8:23 a.m. Saturday.

Cormican has past convictions for aggravated robbery, public indecency and criminal impersonation, according to the arrest report. He was charged in 2005 with fleeing, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct after being chased by a police officer who used a stun gun to apprehend him.

Robertson was taken Friday night to Washington Regional Medical Center. He wasn't listed as a patient Saturday afternoon.

Cormican was being held Saturday in the Washington County Detention Center on $7,500 bond.
