Exhibit seeks local artists

Art submissions are being sought for “Portraits of Hope,” a fundraising exhibit with all proceeds benefiting the Ozark Affiliate of Susan G. Komen and Fort Smith Regional Art Museum’s educational programs. The exhibit is open to all artists, and submissions can be any media. All works will be part of a silent auction from 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 24 at the museum and will be on display through November.

The deadline for submissions is Oct. 13.

Workshop shares writing practices

A writing workshop and book study of Pat Schneider’s “How The Light Gets In: Writing As A Spiritual Practice” will be offered in six Friday sessions from 10 a.m.

to noon Oct. 4, 11, 18, 25 and Nov. 1 and 8 at Nightbird Books, 205 W. Dickson St. in Fayetteville.

This is the first Autumn Adult Creativity event presented by the Invitation To Write Project: Writing Opportunities For Adults.

The no-fee activities are held at literary and arts businesses and nonprofits to foster and support the unique regional community environment they provide for Northwest Arkansas.

The workshops will be led by June Jefferson, project coordinator. She is a memoirist, nature columnist and the Arkansas LifeWriting workshop facilitator.

Church hosts bingo game

Bingo will be played at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Bella Vista on Thursday.

Doors and snack bar open at 5:45 p.m., and play begins at 6:30 p.m. Bingo is open to everyone; all proceeds go to charity, and there is always a $300 and $1,000 blackout.

Next bingo will be Oct. 17.

Writing school features Foster The Village Writing School will offer a workshop from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday on “The Golden Trilogy: Point of View, Sense of Place and Internalization.” The instructor will be Pamela Foster, author of the novels “Redneck Goddess” and “Bigfoot Blues,” as well as a collection of personal essays, “My Life with a Wounded Warrior” and “Clueless Gringos in Paradise.” The workshop will be at the Village Writing School at 177 Huntsville Road, Eureka Springs. The cost is $25.
