PUBLIC VIEWPOINT A Dose Of Cultural Hypocrisy

As a student at the University of Arkansas your credit-hour load gets heavier by the university taking on an “athletic fee” to support the jocks. This “fee” … can add many hundreds of dollars to a student’s credit-hour costs, semester after semester.

But also in (letters to the editor) there is vitriol against those “freeloader welfare types” on food cards, Medicaid, government phones, etc.

How much of aquantumless leap does it take to see in the Bible belt that added fees to keep the jocks on life support is not a sanctimonious “tithing” but in-your-face extortion.

Ah, the cultural hypocrisy of it all.

Unfortunately, the entertainment value of a line of unfortunates waiting in a soup kitchen line doesn’t have all the glitz of a couple of dozen paid-for costumes in drag-tight pantyhose jealously playing with an airborne swine skin-shaped suppository, while valiantlytrying to keep their undereye mascara from getting all icky and stuff .

Now that’s entertainment.

In one of Brenda Blagg’s columns of late she mentions the many, many hundreds of thousands of dollars brought in to the coliseum on a game weekend.

This is due to the city fathers taxing the hotels and restaurants because they are there.

Another form of extortia taximus - the students write a credit-hour welfarecheck to Hog waller lifesupport and the mania stumbles on.

To bring this monetary meddling full snarkle, why not have the jock-ola department get off the gurney and declare itself a 501 charity, deductions for the plebeians all around, bread and circuses all with deductions.

As far as costumes go, get the NASCAR drivers to do the hokey-pokey during half-time.
