Ashdown strikes quickly, often

It didn’t take long for the visiting Ashdown Panthers to establish their dominance against the previously unbeaten Pulaski Robinson Senators on Friday night.

The Panthers (4-0, 1-0 7-4A) scored on their first play on a 57-yard touchdown pass from Jake Alexander to Devaughn Sanders en route to a 35-0 victory over the Senators (3-1, 0-1).

The drive came after Robinson drove to the Ashdown 5, before going backward and then getting its 37-yard field goal attempt blocked by Stefan Sanders.

“We talked about if we let a team stay with us, they will fight with us,” Ashdown Coach Matt Richardson said. “But we have got to jump on them and hit them in the mouth first.”

The Panthers kept on hitting after their quick-strike touchdown.

With 3:01 left in the first quarter, sophomore Brandon Northcross scored on a 2-yard run and Lamontrick Turner ran in for the two-point conversion and a 14-0 lead.

It was 20-0 at halftime after Parrish Guillory caught a a 21-yard touchdown pass that deflected off teammate Ladarius McElroy.

Robinson’s Kody Williams blocked the extra-point attempt for the second time.

Alexander threw his third touchdown pass, 44 yards to Kyle Duncan, in the third quarter and Chris Alexander threw to Jake Alexander on an end-around pass for the conversion to make it 28-0.

Turner scored on a 1-yard run in the fourth quarter to cap the scoringr.

“Our kids played hard and that is what we are impressed with in our kids,” Richardson said. “They play hard every week. … You know we just play 15 or 16 kids. Some play 22, but our kids just played hard and finished the night.”

NO. 1 ARKADELPHIA 28, NASHVILLE 19

ARKADELPHIA - Kris Oliver rushed for 185 yards on 30 carries and scored twice to pace undefeated Arkadelphia (4-0, 1-0) past Nashville (2-2, 0-1) in the 7-4A Conference opener.

Oliver scored on a short run in the first quarter and caught a 20-yard touchdown pass from Jakahari Howell in the second quarter. Howard, who scored on a 2-yard run for the Badgers, also threw a 9-yard scoring pass to John Franklin Matros.

Howell completed 17 of 27 passes for 192 yards.

Nashville had four turnovers.

NO. 3 PB DOLLARWAY 42, NEWPORT 0

NEWPORT - Keyshawn Williams ran for three touchdowns to help lead Pine Bluff Dollarway (4-0, 1-0) to a 2-4A Conference victory over Newport (3-1, 0-1).

Williams scored on runs of 8 and 21 yards in the second quarter and 15 yards in the third quarter.

Joshua Liddell scored Dollarway’s first touchdown on a 1-yard run in the first quarter.

Darius Robinson ran 24 yards for a touchdown and Keyshun Cross had a 4-yard scoring run to complete Dollarway’s scoring.

NO. 4 VALLEY VIEW 49, CAVE CITY 7

JONESBORO - Quarterback Noah Johns threw for two touchdowns and rushed for another as Valley View (4-0, 1-0) blew past Cave City (0-4, 0-1) in a 3-4A conference match up.

Johns was pulled before halftime after throwing a 30-yard touchdown pass to Corban Richardson and an 80-yard swing-pass score to Tucker Hydrick.

On defense, the Blazers forced four consecutive three-and-outs to start the game. Zach Turley had two sacks, and Zac Despain had an interception.

NO. 6 HAMBURG 35, DEWITT 0

HAMBURG - Demonte Burns ran for 101 yards and a touchdown to lead Hamburg (3-1, 1-0 8-4A) past DeWitt (2-2, 0-1).

Burns scored on a 6-yard run in the first quarter. Deandre Rachel added touchdown runs of 8 yards and 1 yard for Hamburg and Kevin Miller added a 4-yard touchdown run.

Logan Morris, who passed for 86 yards for the Lions, also scored on a 1-yard run.
