BENTONVILLE BLACK 21 SPRINGDALE SOUTHWEST 14 THE GAME: Bentonville Black (2-2) used a steady rushing attack by Jacob Clark and Tyler Pike to edge Springdale Southwest (0-4) at Tiger Stadium on Thursday.

The Cougars got on the board first with a 38-yard run by Trey Smith, but Clark answered on the Tigers’ next offensive play, running 70 yards for a touchdown.

On Black’s next possession, it drove 96 yards on 13 plays, capped by an 11-yard run by Pike.

After Southwest tied the game on a 5-yard run by Smith in the third quarter, the Tigers gave the ball to Pike. He gained all 39 yards on Black’s game-winning drive with two and a half minutes left.

“Tyler Pike stepped up and ran the ball hard in the second half,” Black coach Chris Hutchens said. “We weren’t very diverse. They knew what was coming and we were still able to do it.”

Pike and Clark combined for 247 yards rushing for the Tigers, while Smith had 138 all-purpose yards for the Cougars.

Southwest beat Bentonville Lincoln 42-7 in the eighth-grade game.

UP NEXT: Bentonville Black travels to Fayetteville Ramay next week, while Southwest returns home to face Springdale Lakeside.

“Taylor does a lot of things that you can’t coach,” Woodland coach Bobby Crockett said. “That’s awfully good because it helps me out a ton.”

Powell was 7 of 9 passing for 149 yards and a pair of touchdowns, hooking up with Nick Scalise from 30 yards out in the first half and Andrew Ellis in the second half on a 61-yard strike.

Luke Waller and Ellis each ran for touchdowns in the first half for the Cowboys, who forced two turnovers, one of which came on the first play from scrimmage.

The Wranglers (3-1) were led offensively by Omar Martinez, who had 68 yards on seven carries, including a 3-yard touchdown.

Woodland won the eighth-grade game, 28-14.

UP NEXT: Woodland visits Bentonville Gold, while George hosts Springdale Central. The eighth-grade games start at 5:30, with the ninth-grade games to follow.

“We wanted to establish some things early,” said Ramay coach Craig Foringer.

“We were able to do that and gain some momentum. We felt like we had the ball in our hands, and we had a 14-point lead, and that’s the big turning point in the ball game.”

Ramay scored the first touchdown of the night with Edgard Europa’s touchdown and Nichati Paladi’s extra point.

Heritage soon retaliated in the secondquarter with Tae Dixon’s interception.

On the next play, War Eagle Joe Britton bolted 88 yard run to the 4, setting up Britton’s touchdown. The extra-point attempt failed, leaving the score 7-6.

Ramay (3-1) extended its lead to 14-6 late in the third quarter with Jon Conley’s touchdown, and Ramay scored again in the fourth quarter with another touchdown from Europa.

Heritage (1-3) came back with Britton’s second touchdown and two-point conversion, pulling Heritage to within 21-14. With an onside kick, Heritage scored yet another touchdown with Britton, but failed with his attempted two-point conversion,

Oakdale won the eighth-grade game 48-42.

UP NEXT: Rogers Heritage travels to Harrison, while Ramay hosts Bentonville Black.

Siloam Springs scored three touchdowns in the game’s opening three minutes and Lakeside never recovered.

“We came into this game in the same boat as (Lakeside), just trying to get our first win,” said Siloam Springs coach Jonathan Johnson. “We got rolling early and that certainly helped settle the nerves for our guys on offense.”

Siloam Springs (1-3 ) was up 28-0 at the end of the first quarter, thanks to a pair of interceptions that set up touchdown runs by Chandler Carswell.

The first touchdown came on the second play of the game when quarterback Luke Lampton raced 57 yards.

The Golden Eagles (0-4) gave up possession twice inside their own 20 and allowed a 40-yard punt return that set up a fourth scoring drive for the Panthers with :22 remaining in the opening quarter.

Lakeside showed much more resolve in the second half. The Golden Eagles pieced together a pair of scoring drives to cut the deficit in half.

Lampton finished with more than 100 yards rushing for Siloam Springs, despite watching most of the contestfrom the sideline.

Siloam Springs won the eighth-grade game 22-0.

UP NEXT: Lakeside will play Springdale Southwest at Jarrell Williams Bulldog Stadium next Thursday. Siloam Springs will travel to Rogers High.

“Harrison stung us a little, but we answered right back with a scoring drive to tie it at 7-7,” Mounties coach Jeremiah Tebbenkamp said. “The kids played hard.”

Rogers quarterback Grayson Lee scored a pair of touchdowns, while Max Horton, Mason Ruiz and Joel Carrasco also found the end zone for the Mounties (3-1).

Harrison defeated Kirksey 29-0 in the eighth-grade game.

UP NEXT: Rogers hosts Siloam Springs next week at Whitey Smith Stadium.

Gold (4-0) led 17-0 at halftime and 24-0 going to the fourth quarter.

Destyn Adkins scored a pair of touchdowns for Gold, while Seth Agwunobi also had a touchdown. Hayden Moehring kicked a field goal for the Tigers.

“The kids played hard, and they really got after it,” Gold coach Toma Whorton said. “I hope this carries over to practice next week as we prepare to play a very good Woodland team.”

Noah Hayward had a 10-yard touchdown run for Central (3-1), while Warriors quarterback Peytin Copher tossed a 80-yard touchdown pass to Felipe Nava.

UP NEXT: Central faces Springdale George next week. Gold hosts Fayetteville Woodland.
