Chicken, Family Style

Monte Ne Inn continues 41-year tradition

Alocal restaurant tries to bring families and friends together “where they can eat like they’re sitting around their own kitchen table.”

Monte Ne Inn Chicken serves family-style meals with a set menu, says owner David Myers. He describes it as a sitdown, casual family restaurant. Monte Ne Inn Chicken opened in 1972, and Myers took over ownership almost 16 years ago. He had never been in the restaurant business before, but he says he appreciated the concept of this restaurant.

“I like that they’ve only served one menu. That makes us unique,” he says.

To his knowledge, the menu has been the same since the beginning. The restaurant had a well established reputation, and he just wanted to continue it, he says. Guests are served bean soup for an appetizer and then brought bowls of fresh fried chicken, mashed potatoes and cream gravy, seasoned string beans, sweet corn, cole slaw and a loaf of homemade bread with butter and apple butter. An adult all-you-can-eat dinner is $10.99 per person.

Meals are $6.99 for children ages 9-11, $4.99 for children ages 4-8 and free for children younger than age 4, he says.

Drinks and dessert are an extra cost.

Myers notes take-out orders are also available.

Monte Ne Inn Chicken accepts walk-ins, butMyers says he recommends reservations.

Myers says he took on the restaurant with a few goals in mind: friendly atmosphere, clean restaurant, consistent food and great wait staff.

The restaurant began as only two small rooms, and two more have been added. Myers says this place is like “the mom and pop shop.”

“You get to know your customers well,” he says. “You make a lot of good friends.”
