Benton County Offers Mapping Classes

BENTONVILLE — Benton County will offer training for those interested in the new mapping feature on the county’s website.

The “create your own map” program the county has used for several years will no longer be maintained, said Bear Chaney, assessor.

“We are coming out with the new map for us to use and for the public to use,” Chaney said. “The guys in GIS thought it would be a good idea to offer classes for people in how to make use of the site. We’ll have as many classes as we need to have, but we’d like for them to be full so people who are interested need to contact us ahead of time.”

The new mapping feature is available under “Parcels Map” and “BaseMap Viewer” on the county website, according to information from Cheney’s office. A class for businesses such as title, real estate and survey companies on how to use the new program will be offered at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Quorum Courtroom at the County Administration Building, 215 E. Central Ave. A class for the general public will follow at 6 p.m.

Each class is limited to 15 people and space can be reserved by calling 479-271-1749, extension 4955, and leaving a message with a name and phone number.

Chaney said additional classes will be scheduled if needed.
