Springdale school locked down briefly after threats reported

SPRINGDALE — Parson Hills Elementary School was locked down Thursday after reports of a parent making threats.

“We had a safety concern from a disgruntled adult in the area of the school,” said Rick Schaeffer, Springdale School District communications director. “The police were summoned and the situation was resolved.”

A call was made to police at 7:55 a.m. Thursday concerning terroristic threats, according to police dispatch records. A child and the child's aunt told school officials her father had threatened to shoot up the school halls after the child’s mother asked the father to pay child support, the records stated.

The man denied the threats, saying the child and aunt misunderstood him, according to the records.

Several police officers came to the school, including school resource officers. A resource officer from another school stayed at Parson Hills, 2326 Cardinal Drive, for the rest of the day, Schaeffer said. The school was on lockdown only for a short time, Schaeffer said.

No arrests have been made, according to police records.
