Koch to appear on ‘Wheel’

Todd Koch of Greenwood will appear on the TV game show “Wheel of Fortune” at 6:30 p.m.

Friday on local station KFSM.

Koch was chosen after auditioning in Tulsa, Okla., at the Hard Rock Casino. The show was filmed July 28 in Las Vegas.

Koch, a self-proclaimed “Wheel watcher,” works in the admissions office at the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith.

A watch party is planned at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Joe’s Cantina & Grill, 3400 S. 74th St. in Fort Smith.

King graduates from Camp KAOS

Cameron King of Springdale graduated from Camp KAOS 201 this summer at the Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Center in Hutchinson, Kan.

King is a ninth grader at Central Junior High School in Springdale. He is the son of Darren and Christy King.

Space 201 is a six-day astronaut training camp for students entering at least the eighth grade. The program focuses on teamwork, leadership and problem-solving within the subjects of science, technology, engineering and math. Wiseman chosen for bake-off

Wendy Wiseman of Bella Vista is one of 60 semifinalists in the 46th Pillsbury Bake-Off Contest.

Wiseman is the mother of five children, ranging in age from 19 to 1½. Finalists in the contest will have a chance to win a $1 million prize.

Finalists will be chosen through online voting at bake off.

Arkansas author releases novel

Arkansas author James Babb has released “The Devil’s Backbone,” a family-friendly novel set in the foothills of the Devil’s Backbone mountain ridge near Fort Smith.

The novel tells the story of a young farm boy who sets out tosave his family in the post-Civil War era. The book is available on Amazon.com.

Three elected to alumni board

The Rev. Jerry Rice of Rogers, Bill Crowder of Fort Smith and Elizabeth Hendricks Esch of Fayetteville have been elected to serve on the University of the Ozarks Alumni Association Board. They began their three year terms on July 1.

Rice is a former U.S. Air Force chaplain who served as the cadet chaplain at the U.S. Air Force Academy from 1970-1973. He also served as first dean of the chapel at the University of the Ozarks in Clarksville before retiring in 1995.

Crowder won more than 1,000 games as head baseball coach for the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith from 1966-1999. The UA Fort Smith baseball field is named Bill Crowder Field in his honor.

Esch is director of special events at the Botanical Garden of the Ozarks in Fayetteville. She has worked at the garden since 2004.

Springdale author releases new book

Springdale author Houstine Cooper has released the book “Ruby’s Mountain, Expanded Edition.” The book is about the struggles and joys of the eldest child in a large family living in the Ozarks near Clarksville in the early 20th century.

Zooming for Zeb fundraiser Oct. 5

The first Zooming for Zeb 5K and fundraiser will be 4-9:30 p.m. Oct. 5 at Orchards Park in Bentonville. The event will include a 5K run, a poker run and a one-mile family fun run/walk.

The fundraiser benefits Zeb Collingsworth, who was recently diagnosed with stage 4 glioblastoma, an aggressive brain cancer. Collingsworth does not have insurance.

Live music for the event will be provided by The Overseer and Lot-44. Team Self-Destruct will host a skateboard and BMX demo during the event.

A cookout and kids’ zone are also planned.

Society inducts 13 new members

The Alpha Beta Omega chapter of Kappa Delta Pi International Honor Societyin Education at the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith inducted 13 new members at a Sept. 10 ceremony and corded five senior members during the event.

New inductees include Lucy Ray and Rebekah Tanner of Booneville; Michaela Shaw of Chester; Jennifer Creekmore, Sarah Foster, Hannah Howell, Rick Lee, Jill Siebenmorgen, Rheachel Weaver and Kirsten Wilson of Fort Smith; Darion Graham of Lavaca; Katie Hammonds of Magazine; and Christina Cox of Van Buren.

Senior members receiving cords include Elizabeth Davis and Amber Wright of Fort Smith; Tatum Williams of Greenwood; Amy Boyd of Mansfield; and Jaineane Harrison of Van Buren.

Senior members must have a 3.5 grade-point average or higher to earn cords to wear at commencement.
