ROGERS — Alderwoman Margaret “Marge” Wolf announced Tuesday she is running as a Republican for the District 94 seat in the State Legislature held by Debra Hobbs.

Hobbs, who is term-limited in the Legislature, announced she’s running for governor in 2014. Hobbs couldn’t be reached for comment Tuesday night. Her husband Ray Hobbs said she was in meetings and not available.

Wolf was appointed to the Rogers City Council by Mayor Greg Hines in 2010 to fill the term of Barney Hayes who resigned to become park director.

Politics is nothing new to Wolf. Besides serving on the Rogers City Council, she was elected to Benton County’s Quorum Court and served 10 years.

“There are a lot of issues I’m interest in,” said Wolf, the president and chief executive officer of the Northwest Arkansas Food Bank.

“I’ve worked with nonprofits for several years and as a justice of the peace I’ve been involved in balancing budgets and general financial issues, Wolf said.

Running for state representative is the next step on her political ladder, Wolf said.

“I will still have time to serve on the council. The election isn’t until November next year and if elected, I won’t take the office until 2015. I plan to continue to serve the city of Rogers and its residents,” Wolf said.

“I have been a servant of the people for many years and have no desire to stop serving. I enjoy serving the people and this seems to be the next logical step. I don’t have an agenda, I want to continue to have a place at the table and serve the people in the district and the state. I believe I can represent Benton County as a member of the Arkansas State Legislature,” Wolf said.

Buddy Wright, alderman, said he was surprised by Wolf’s announcement, but not surprised she’s running for a state office.

“I’ve know and worked with Marge many times over the years with the United Way and other organizations. I have always found her to be dedicated to whatever she’s involved in. I think she will be an excellent state representative and I support her,” Wright said.

Betsy Reithemeyer, alderwoman, also had high praise for Wolf.

“I’m very excited about Marge running for state office. We need people with her intelligence, work ethic, and dedication to the people she serves. She is already a well-known and respected person on the state level. She can work well with others and the ability to get things done. That’s what we need in Little Rock as our representative from Benton County,” Reithemeyer said.
