Police: Woodland Jr. High student arrested, had gun on campus

A 15-year-old Woodland Junior High School student was arrested Wednesday after police found a loaded handgun in his backpack, according to a news release from the Fayetteville Police Department.

Police tried to speak to the boy after a report of a student having a gun on campus. The student fled on foot and dropped his backpack with the gun behind World Gym on College Avenue before being apprehended near King Burrito, according to the news release.

The boy had not threatened anyone with the gun, according to the news release. The boy was arrested in connection with possession of a handgun by a minor on school property and fleeing.
