Traffic accidents kill four in state

Four people - two aboard a motorcycle and two pedestrians changing a flat tire - were killed in crashes on Arkansas highways Sunday, the Arkansas State Police said.

The first happened at 6:22 p.m. at Johnson Avenue and Azalea Lane in Jonesboro when a Ford F-150, traveling west on Johnson, made a left turn in front of a 2007 Harley Davidson headed east on Johnson, which is also U.S. 63.

Trandon L. Langston, 25, who was driving the Harley, and Leah M. Shelby, 33, who was a passenger on the motorcycle, died as a result of the ensuing collision, police said. Both were from Jonesboro.

The driver of the pickup, Juan Cruz, 45, of Jonesboro, wasn’t hurt.

About 9:30 p.m., two pedestrians were changing a flat tire on a 2003 Ford on the southbound shoulder on Arkansas 7, north of Harrison in Boone County, when a 1999 Peterbilt tractor-trailer rig struck the Ford with the flat tire and a 1993 Ford also parked on the shoulder.

Both parked vehicles then struck the pedestrians, police said. Gregory L. Ward, 40, of Harrison and Richard J. Foster, 19, of Lead Hill were killed. Brynden Ward, 9, a passenger in the 2003 Ford, was hurt.
