Mounties Run Well

Rogers High placed third at the Missouri Southern State University Cross Country Meet Saturday as two Mounties finished in the top 10.

Austin Salazar led the Mounties with a fifth-place finish in a time of 15:52.59 while Ian Smith crossed in seventh place in a time of 15:55.25. Jake Mankin finished in 24th place (16:41.11) and Jessie Garcia crossed in 48th place (17:14.25). Paul Torres rounded out the scoring for Rogers with a 17:36.86 and a 69th place finish.

The Lady Mounties finished in 11th place in the girls race. Braelyn Smith was the first Lady Mountie to cross with a 20:02.69 in 35th place. Lauren Harrell was second for Rogers with a 39th place finish in 20:10.32. Claudia Cichy, Katelyn George and Lisa Lauschke also had strong races for the Lady Mounties.

Lady War Eagles Finished Sixth

The Rogers Heritage Lady War Eagles enjoyed a solid day, finishing sixth out of 25 teams at the Missouri Southern Stampede on Saturday.

The Lady War Eagles had two in the top 25 led by senior Hannah Owen’s 14th place finish, while junior Kesley Brown was 24th. Heritage did well even without one of its top runners, Deirdre Sheets, not competing because of a death in the family.

“It was a good day overall,” Heritage coach Jeff Shaw said. “I think we could have won if Deirdre runs. Jessica Lilze ran a 20 flat, a personal best by a minute.”

The Heritage boys finished 12th out of 31 teams led by Woodrow Murray’s 38th-place finish. Shaw also noted freshmen Javier Hernandez and James Parker ran well, too.

Both Heritage teams will now get ready for the Rim Rock Farm Classic in Lawrence, Kan., on Friday.
