West Fayetteville Streets To Receive Surface Treatment

FAYETTEVILLE — Workers with Donelson Construction of Clever, Mo., on Tuesday will begin treating about four miles of west Fayetteville streets with a sealant aimed at prolonging the life of road surfaces.

The sealant, called microseal, is an alternative to traditional repaving. Transportation Division officials said streets can be resurfaced every six to nine years using microseal at about 40 percent of the cost of traditional milling and overlay. Repaving is normally required every 15 years.

Streets receiving microseal treatment will open three to four hours after each application, according to a city news release. The project is expected take about four weeks to complete, depending on weather. City Council members approved a $195,000 contract with Donelson Construction earlier this year.
