The only division of the Pulaski County Circuit Court that was opened with prayer this morning was the Second Division, presided over by Judge Guy Fulk. At the invitation of Judge Fulk, Rev. Jessup visited the courthouse and before any case was called in Judge Fulk’s court, offered up a prayer. Rev. Jessup spoke of the duties imposed upon courts. He pointed out the many difficulties that the judges were invoked to straighten out and he prayed that Judge Fulk might be guided aright in all his decisions.

50 YEARS AGO Sept. 22, 1963 SHERIDAN - Classes will start tomorrow in Arkansas’ only windowless school. The unique Sheridan High School building represents a new concept in this type of construction. It is one of the few windowless schools in the country. The air-conditioned building has 16 classrooms capable of accommodating 600 students. The one-story structure, which cost $375,000, has 12 exits and double-diffused skylights, located strategically throughout. Ample fluorescent lighting makes up for the lack of windows. The windowless walls represent a school concept, called “Environment for Learning.” It was pointed out that one of the reasons for this type of school here was to curb the distractions caused by a nearby lumber mill.

An effort to raise $10.5 million for the planned Arkansas Inland Maritime Museum in North Little Rock is in full-steam-ahead mode. The campaign is to raise cash for the planning and construction of a nonprofit museum to house the submarine USS Razorback that North Little Rock is buying from Turkey. Other boats could follow, with the most notable possibility being the tugboat Hoga, famous for service at Pearl Harbor during the Japanese attack. The 150,000 squarefoot museum, planned for a site just west of the Interstate 30 bridge downtown, is a project pushed by North Little Rock Mayor Patrick Hays to increase tourism and promote economic development.
